Pass It On

"Pass It On"
My Social Experiment
Did You Receive a Card?

"Pass It On" is my social experiment to see how many people can be made to feel special by simply giving them one of my photographs on a "You are Special!!!" business size card and providing them a choice to either "Keep It" or "Pass it On".  There is no cost; no advertising; no strings attached.  There are no expectations to buy or sell anything.  "Pass It On" is simply a set of printed cards handed out to produce a smile or to say thank you for being a special person.  The cards were given to people because of an observed random act of kindness; or a passing smile or hello; or a feeling that someone needed a pick-me-up; or for no other reason except that today is a great day and our paths crossed, potentially never to cross again.

If you received a card you have a choice:

  • "Keep" the card and smile each time you see it, because the person "Passing It On" thought you were special, or
  • "Pass It On" to someone else to make them smile and feel special.  Initial the back of the card to show you are part of the greater good in making people feel happy.  Use your camera and snap a picture of the front and back so you have a remembrance of your actions.

If you would like to share your experience, add your comments below and include the number that was written on the card.   I'm looking for positive feedback that the cards may have had on you or the person you gave the card.

I am hoping this experiment will provide many comments that show the genuine good nature everyone posses.

Enjoy and remember,

"Moments in time are lived once. Images of those moments live forever."

Card #56 (CJ) was passed to just a truly genuine and soft spoken person that shows his love for God by supporting and believing in the ministries that promote good will to all. We spoke of the importance of treating everyone with selfless intentions because we never know the true positive effect a single action will have on another. From our short conversation I learned that we all need to support each other, not because of our own individual needs, but for the needs of others. If we live our lives simply and we vigilantly reach out to help others, all of us as a society will benefit.

Card #50 (EGLS) At first it was a joyful experience to receive a “Pass it on” card but then when I read why the giver chose me, I was very humbled. I didn’t recognize in myself all those attributes the giver described. Who, me??? No big deal, just doing my thing.

After much thought, I feel that the most deserving person to pass this card on to is the person who makes others smile and feel special by showing God’s love to them through this thoughtful card.

I believe that the Holy Spirit gave him the inspiration for this idea, and this gesture of recognition greatly impacts the people who receive a card - not only those with serious challenges in life but also people he observes performing random acts of kindness. When the person receiving the “Pass it on” card smiles and is joyful, the world becomes a better place.

This individual sees the world and everyone in it through the eyes of God. Even his photography captures an insight into a world that others do not see. The Holy Spirit lives in him and guides him. God’s love shines through him and although life is not always easy, he tries to make a positive difference each and every day.
His strength comes from his strong faith in God – strength to support and comfort family members and friends for whatever ails them, even serious illnesses. The Holy Spirit guides him as he walks in the footsteps of Jesus. He is a rock in times of adversity.

He is definitely someone special who deserves to receive this token of appreciation for all the smiles, blessings, joy and encouragement that he brings to others.

Smile EGLS! Even though you are not on Candid Camera, you are loved and VERY Special!!! You’re also a wonderful son, husband, father and Papa. God bless you and your family always. Happy Father’s Day!

Card #55 (TG) was passed along to yet another strong person battling the effects of cancer. This person is such an inspiration with her vibrant smile and effervescent personality. She told me about how her pain threshold is exceeded every day, but her will to survive for the sake of her children makes every day precious and the pain tolerable. After the initial shock and continuous treatments, she understood the preciousness and fragility of life and how much her children and family meant. The simple things in life are more important than ever, and the significance of smiling and laughing that shows others that she is grateful for having the ability to experience every day her life has to offer.

Keep smiling TG, you are an inspiration to us all.

Card #54 (Jose Tolentino) is a card representing the strength of a man faced with the adversity of battling prostate cancer. It's rare to experience an individual with a contagious positive attitude with a sparkle in his eyes and monumental smile, all the while having the "C" word on his mind. I met Jose a few months ago and just recently learned he is a fellow photographer and has just begun the fight for a cure. He is not fighting for himself, but is fighting for the happiness of everyone he loves and provides love to him. He fights because he believes in his family and own self worth. He believes there is something inside his soul yearning to make a significant contribution to the world as a human being. I have met a true hero. A true hero fighting to make his body healthy for his wife, special daughter, and others. All as he continues to smile and make everyone feel good around him.

Keep smiling my friend, all will be fine. There is something powerful about you and your positive attitude dictates success.

Card #53 (KJ) was passed to someone who has faced many challenges in life including a divorce and raising five children alone. Recently she had to oversee the personal care and financial matters of a relative with Alzheimer's Disease and it became necessary to place this person in an assisted living facility.

Although she is a substitute high school teacher, she attends all the school's activities - games, dances, parades, plays, etc. Students and former students come running to give her a hug when they see her. They know she cares about them and is interested in hearing about their lives. She also works at a retail store and her positive attitude carries over to the many customers that she helps.

Her strong faith in God and belief in Jesus Christ has brought her through very difficult times and having to make tough decisions. She knows that God is with her and will guide her. With a smile on her face and joy in her heart she is grateful for every day no matter what it brings. She is someone special who deserves to receive this token of appreciation for all the blessings and encouragement that she brings to others.
